Zoo Opole, was founded in 1930 (then in Oppeln, Germany). About 20 hectares (49 acres) in extent, it houses around 1000 animals of about 240 different species. It is located on Bolko Island in the Oder River. You meet regular zooanimals like the giraf, but also the gorilla

Opole Zoo was built in the 1930s, the park is located on the Isle of Bolko, whose private portion occupying about 1 ha was transformed into a menagerie. In 1936, due to the immense popularity of this place, the then municipal authorities made available to the public zoo, while paying for its maintenance. During World War II, the animals were exported to Germany, and the destruction caused elimination of the object. Only in 1952 was Zwierzyniec Reconstruction Committee in Opole, the efforts of the July 22, 1953 The garden was reopened with an area of 24 ha. Cages and pens were built in a communal and domestic animals enriched the collection of rare and exotic species. The first Himalayan bear and Bennetts wallaby bred here in Poland. In 1980, the enlarged surface area with 19 hectares of lakes, which was an incentive for further expansion, however, carried out in a simple and inexpensive because it coincided with the crisis. In 1996, a new concept of modernization of the zoo, according to which animals of the continents will be exposed in one area of the garden, in the so-called zoo-geographic areas. In 1997, the garden was threatend to re-liquidation, when the flood of the century haunted Opole, completely destroying the terrain and animals. In 1998, the zoo is recovering after the third time. Step by step, given away are the next housses built according to a new concept. Reconstructed is also a collection of animals. For the first time giraffes, rhinos, red pandas, anteaters and various species of monkeys arrived to Opole. The zoo specializes in breeding tamarins, lemurs and ungulates. In 2002 the zoo build a giraffe house, in 2005 - the gorilla bay, and in 2007 - the only pool in Poland for Californian Sea Lions. In 2011, a pavilion is devoted for amphibians - the most endangered vertebrates, and a new giraffe house was erected.

After been paying the entrance fee we have on the left side small aviarys for tamarins and on the right side the maned wolf, in there area we also finde the prairie dogs. Passing the gibbon islands, home for the Siamang and follow the road then on the right side with Californian Sea Lions and then the Bactrian Camel. Back on the mainroad we se the house for small monkeys and the the Gorilla. Next we have the pampasarea with vicugnas, next to them we find otters. Now turning right we look the island for the black-capped squirrel monkey, then on the Servals and then som bigger aviarys for birds of prey, like the condor. Then turning left again we look at some parots and across we are having a small house for amphibians, There neighbours are some Suth American animals like the Pudu. The worlds smallest real deer. Across we are having a big aviary for jaguars and cougars. Then passing the lake with ducks and gees, we are having another pampas in front of us, home to species like the Alpaca and capybaras. Right next door we finde the Llamas as well as the South American Tapir. Now we turn right and see some exotic birds and then som small carnivores like the Jaguarundi and the Coati. Pasing another lake we look at som other ducks and gees. At the wolfs den we turn left. Here we look at the lynx and then the snoe leopard. Now we look at som hoofed animals, starting with the wild boar, then the doe and Anoa. Across we are having the Pygmy Hippo and the Addax. Then we are having the first Savannah with Zebras.  Across we are having som farm animals like the donkey. Then looking at the Australian area with Kangaroos. In this area we also find the Cheetah and the Davids Deer. Now we look at the second savannah with giraffes and siatungas among others, as well as the Watussi. Looking now on some islands, home to the ring-tailed lemur and the Suricat. Strolling along the savannah and som aviarys for owls we turn right as soon as posible and reach the aviary for european birds.  Here at the restaurant we also see pelicans, an aviary for ibises as well as the muntjac. Ending this tour so far the next enclosures will in the future include lions, tigers and rhinos.


DE: Der Zoo von Oppeln wurde in der deutschen zeit  eröffnet in den 1930er und hat für Polen seltene tiere wie Gorillas und Kalifornische Seelöwen, internationale seltenheiten sind aber die Anoas und der Bongo

DK: Haven blev grundlagt i 1930erne da byen var en del af Tyskland. Den viser i Polen sjælden viste dyr som den californiske søløve og gorillaer, internationalt bliver dog anoaen og bongoen vist sjældnere
